The Calon Home Story… from teacher to candle-maker!

When I talk about the Calon Home story, I’m actually talking about me, Julia,  and my story. I’ve not always been a chandler, in fact after graduating from Swansea I entered the corporate world working in Sales and then HR before deciding to qualify as a French and Spanish teacher back in 2006. I worked up to Head of Department and eventually in 2012 we relocated to Harlech in North Wales. Being a non-Welsh speaker it was difficult to continue teaching in an area where all schools are Welsh-medium, and so I made the decision to set up my own business and to be more present with my own two children.

First of all I set up a jewellery company selling fine silver keepsake jewellery featuring fingerprints, handprints and even pet paw prints. It was very labour intensive and whilst I loved being able to create these special pieces for people, I started experimenting with making my own candles, something which I always bought for my own home but was never happy with.  In other words, I thought I could do better(!)

Fast forward to 2019 and after many many months of testing, Calon Home was born, specialising in a range of candles, home fragrance and candle gift sets.  We had very humble beginnings from a kitchen table and we started off selling a small range of luxury scented candles alongside long-lasting natural wax melts.  I knew I wanted to add a personal touch so I began offering the option to personalise the candle lids so that people to make gifting the candles even more special.  We now produce hundreds of luxury scented candles that are now shipped around the UK and further afield.

We have now expanded our range to stock a range of wax burners and matches alongside some beautiful home accessories.

I have lived and worked in Wales pretty much since I was 18 and am proud to include the beautiful Welsh language on many of Calon Home’s offerings.

Striving for Better…

Calon is the Welsh word for “heart” and we try to show how much we care by constantly striving for better. We deeply care about our impact on the world and we try to minimise the impact we have on the planet. We are proud to be plastic-free and each order will arrive in environmentally-friendly packaging. In addition all of our suppliers are UK based and we try to use other small businesses wherever possible.

All of our suppliers are UK based, and the natural wax we use has been specifically chosen to be as eco-friendly as can be.

We set extremely high standards with regards to customer service and will do out utmost to ensure our customers have an excellent experience from order right through to delivery.

OUR PACKAGING

All of our packaging is plastic-free and we use non-laminated paper and card to allow full and easy kerb-side recycling.

Our melts come in biodegradable and compostable glassine bags which can be placed within your household compost.

To ensure your orders arrive safely we pack all orders with either recyclable filler or packing peanuts that are dissolvable in water.

OUR MISSION
